Following the workshop, participants will

  • have developed a sound understanding of how generative AI and other AI systems (e.g. for literature reviews) work, and assess their opportunities, limitations and risks in the context of research and the doctoral/early-career phase
  • be familiar with the legal and organisational framework governing the use of AI (including data protection, data flow, the EU AI Regulation and relevant guidelines from funding organisations) and reflect on its significance for their own day-to-day research
  • recognise the potential of AI-supported tools for typical tasks in the day-to-day work of doctoral students and early-career researchers (e.g. literature research, text work, structuring arguments, data preparation/analysis and self-management tasks) and use them in a targeted manner
  • understand typical scenarios for the use of AI in their own research or qualification phase, reflect on them critically and evaluate them in terms of academic integrity, transparency and traceability
  • work practically with generative AI and apply, further develop and document basic prompting techniques in their own use cases
  • build transferable skills to design their own AI workflows in a responsible, efficient and legally compliant manner and to adapt them to changing requirements
  • systematically reflect on their own use of AI, identify challenges and, building on this, develop robust, sustainable routines for the use of AI in everyday research (including documentation and self-assessment)
